'PR activities should reach common man'

Public Relations professionals indeed have a vital role in the society and they can turnaround things to make the world a better place to live, said East Coast Railway (ECoR) General Manager (GM) Umesh Singh here on Saturday.

Inaugurating a national seminar, on Public Relations: an effective tool for peace and progress organised by the Public Relations Council of India, (PRCI) Bhubaneswar Chapter in association with the ECoR, Singh said peace and harmony was important parameters for progress, and by all means they must ensure it for growth and development.

Speaking on various PR activities of Indian Railways Singh further said ‘Indian Railways has taken a number of initiatives in this direction and not only connected with rail passengers but with the public at large.’

‘This helped to resolve many issues and problems of the passengers and our Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is also on twitter and have always endeavoured to be in connection with the common man and keep them updated on the different plans, programmes and other benefits to the public’ he stated.

‘Such national seminars like this organised by the PRCI should go a long way in creating not only awareness among us but still important these messages should reach the common man and create the required impact in the entire society,’ Singh added.

Former Union Coal Secretary PK Mishra attending the seminar as chief guest on the concluding ceremony while emphasising on the important of PR said if public relations is effectively deployed, we can also to a large extent defuse communal violence and instil harmony in the society.

The first session was chaired by ECoR CPRO JP Mishra. National President, PRCI BN Kumar discussed various aspect of PR, as the guest of honour, while welcome address was delivered by PRCI Bhubaneswar Chapter president Ashok Kumar Panda and PRCI vice chairman Dillip Bisoi offered vote of thanks.

In the concluding session, India Mining Operation CEO Ashok Kumar Bal, EMIl, Aditya Birla Group, RN Mahapatra, were guests of honour while Ashok Kumar Panda presided and PRCI general secretary Nirakar Das offered the vote of thanks. Paramita Mishra compered the seminar.
