With the father and his two daughters reported missing since March 27, the body of the father was found near Birla Ghat in Ganga canal on Wednesday morning while one of his daughters’ was found by the Haridwar police roaming in the Upper Bazar and the other one aged 9 is still missing. Just 24 hours before of recovering the corpse, the relatives of the deceased had filed the missing report in city police station.
According to the police, Pratap Singh, 42, resident of Milk Colony under Sagarpur jurisdiction of Chandigarh worked in a private factory. On March 27, Pratap left his house along with his two daughters, Payal and Komal. When they did not return, the relatives started searching and the search coming to no avail, they informed the police. The police had put the mobile of Pratap Singh on surveillance which showed his location in Haridwar.
The brother of Pratap, Puran Singh reached Haridwar and along with his family members, they started their hunt for the missing relatives at Har Ki Pauri and surrounding areas. On receiving information, Haridwar police lodged the missing report. With no information coming of their whereabouts, the relatives of the deceased continued to stay in Haridwar.
The Belwala police station which was formed under Ardh Kumbh Mela police got the information on Tuesday that a body had been found stuck in Ganga river near Birla Ghat.
The information was passed on to all the police stations. The Nagar kotwali contacted the Belwala police station to discover that the deceased was none other than the missing Pratap Singh.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Kotwali in-charge of Rodi Belwala P C Mathpal said, “As per the brother of the deceased, Puran Singh, Pratap was mentally disturbed. He had left the house in Chandigarh, saying he was going to buy medicines.”
