Police have been deployed at tourist attractions including Mussoorie and Dhanaulti in view the New Year celebrations. Traffic will also be diverted at sites to handle the increased traffic on the roads of Dehardun and Mussoorie. Senior superintendent of police Sweety Aggarwal said, “Considering past experiences, we are extra cautious this time. Some revelers turn violent and create ruckus in inebriated state in and around the hotels, restaurants and other sites they visit. Besides, cases of drunk driving and reckless driving tend to rise around this time. Dehradun has been divided into four zones and 11 sectors. Circle officer has been appointed as zone in-charge while sector in-charge would act inspector or police station in-charge,” she said. She further said that intelligence staff have been put on alert too. Five patrol teams have been formed for Dhara Chowki, ISBT, Hathibadkala and Panditwadi Bypass to maintain order and check any public nuisance. Police station officers have been directed to deploy force at popular locations to ensure order. Fire tenders will be stationed at Clock Tower, Dilaram Chowk, Dharmpur Crossing, Premnagar diversion, Mandi crossing and Patelnagar to minimise damage in case of accidental fire. Two Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will be pressed into service to make rounds from Clock Tower to Great Value bifurcation and Clock Tower to Ballupur crossing on Saturday,” SSP said. This aside, to maintain peace in the city, 13 barriers have been put up at sites including Rajpur Road, near Secretariat gate; Araghar T junction, Kishan Nagar Chowk in Premnagar, Nalapani Chowk, Jakhan; Kolhukhet; Vidhan Sabha crossing; Clock Tower; Dilaram Chowk; Balliwala and lalpul. “In all, 13 sub-inspectors, 26 constables, 13 units of CPU, six platoons and one and half sections PAC jawans would be deputed at above barriers,” she informed.
