East Singhbhum district administration and city police have jointly planned an action plan to regulate New Year revelries on December 31 and January 1.
Jamshedpur traffic DSP Vivekananda Thakur informed that they have decided to enforce curbs on entry of heavy vehicles to prevent mishaps on city roads as heavy vehicles carrying industrial goods ply with speed to meet their deadlines to various industrial units located in the city. The no-entry curb will start from 6 am (morning) of December 31 and continue till 2 am (wee-hours of January 1) and will again be enforced from 6 am (morning) of January 1 till midnight.
All the five traffic police officials have been asked to stop plying of heavy vehicles while the Mango traffic police strength has been increased to ensure that heavy vehicles are not allowed entry to city from either Dimna roundabout or Pardih roundabout along the NH-33.
Meanwhile, Dhalbhum SDO Suraj Kumar issued a circular for deployment of trained divers associated with various NGOs and civil defence unit near water points which are thronged by picnickers.
“Though we had already issued circular for deployment of magistrates along with static police force to ensure law and order at picnic spots and acting on the directive of the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner (Amit Kumar) we have decided to depute divers near water bodies to prevent any drowning incidents,” said the SDO .
Divers would be deputed near Dimna lake, Hudco Dam, Narwa Dam (in Jadugora) and River Subernarekha banks at Domuhani (Sonari) and Sakchi, along with adequate police force. Magistrates and static police forces will also be deputed at prominent picnic spots including Dimna lake (Mango), Jubilee Park (Sakchi), Narwapahar (Jadugora), Bhetiya Park (Kadma), Domuhani, Hudco lake (Telco) and Theme Park (Ghorabandha near Telco).
City SP Prashant Anand also directed the local police station officials and the highway patrol units to step up their vigil from December 31 afternoon till January 3 to prevent unlawful assembly of youths in city and Highways, rash driving, blaring of sound systems after 10 pm and consumption of liquor on the roads. The police along with district excise department staff also carried out a drive against drunken driving.
The move comes after senior police officials received many complaints from residents demanding to curb the menace at public places. People also said some of the drinkers do mischievous acts and pass lewd remarks on women crossing through there. The tiger mobiles have also been directed to launch frequent checking near liquor shops. The cops will lay down checking near different liquor shops across the town continuously.
