In an apparent attempt to extract full political mileage out of a statement allegedly made by the Bharatiya Janata Party state chief and leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Ajay Bhatt, the Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay strongly condemned the purportedly derogatory statement. Occupying the post of BJP State president, it does not behoove Bhatt to make such an objectionable statement which has exposed the mentality of the party, said the PCC chief.
In a statement issued through PCC vice president Jot Singh Bisht, Upadhyay opined that the statement made by Bhatt was dismissive of the dignity of the state. “This goes against the public sentiment behind the statehood movement which led to the creation of Uttarakhand. A person occupying the post of the state president of a national party, making a derogatory statement about members of a particular caste and fraternity is strongly condemned by the Congress,” said the PCC chief. Upadhyay further opined that Bhatt and the national leadership of the BJP should apologise in public for purportedly making the objectionable statement.
Furthering the issue, Bisht opined that the BJP national leadership should apologise to the public while also stressing that stern action should be taken against Bhatt by the BJP central leadership for the “derogatory” statement which does not befit a person of his position.
