The National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) has been able to maintain quality and reliability of Government data which has made its mark at the international level, said Deputy Director-General and Regional Head Preet Singh, NSSO(FOD), Bhopal, at the Statistics Day on Wednesday.
Every year on June 29 which is Professor Prashant Chandra Mahalnobis’ birthday, Statistics Day is observed. To honor extraordinary contributions in the field of statistics the Government of India declared June 29 as Statistics Day in the year 2007.
Deputy Director Ramnivas Ranvan said that Mahalnobis has great contributions in the modern statistics and after the independence planning of the second five year was shoulder by Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahalnobis.
Statistics helps in the use of resources to the fullest in the country and credible statistics ensures that the benefit of development reaches to the poor of the country.
Singh said that on the Statistics Day it should be accepted that all the decisions in life whether small or big are affected by statistical data.
He added that the current era is of information and communication and information is nothing but meaningful data based on statistics and plays a vital role in decision making at every level and across the streams and which cannot be denied by any one. Advance technology for development of agriculture and scientific thinking
should be the priority which could help in the betterment of the farmers, said Singh during his lecture ion ‘Agriculture and Development of Farmers.’
