Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb on Friday said the construction of another Bimala temple at the Govardhan Pith of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati at Puri is no violation of religious norms and should not be opposed.
“Maa Bimala is being worshiped as Pitheswari at the Govardhan Pith since time immemorial. The Maa’s puja at the Pith is conducted in the Baisnab way and at the Shreemandir in Tantra way where Bali is offered. Maa Bimala is Bhairabi and lord Jagannath is Bhairab. On the other hand, Maa Bimala is worshiped at Gaadi house and Her puja is only witnessed by the priest and the most revered Shankaracharya. After the new temple comes up, common people will have an opportunity to offer prayers at the Pith. Hence, opposing the new temple would be like narrowing down the Maa’s adoration,” said the Gajapati at a Press meet here.
The new temple would be inaugurated on January 17, informed the Puri king.
