Even as Sibutala gram panchayat of Tarbha block won the first prize as a healthy GP in Subarnapur district for successful implementation of health and sanitation programmes yet locals are not happy as, according to them, nothing healthy has happened in the gram panchayat.
Sibutula GP was given the 1st prize as healthy panchayat for successful utilsation of Gaan Kalyan Samiti (GKS) fund. Out of the Rs 70,000 sanctioned money, Rs 60, 700 has been spent, claimed BPM Priyaranjan Sahu.
But villagers allege that the spending has been shown falsely in records. Citing example of Sibutula village, they said only Rs 3,500 out of Rs 6 588 has been spent in the village under the GKS.
“The heaps of garbage giving foul smells at the village school and the defunct bore-well at Harijan Pada are the burning example of our claims,” said villagers.
They too stated that women have to stand in queues for hours to get dirty water from the tube-well.
When contacted, CHC in-charge Dr Khirod Mishra daid, “We had given all the work to the BPM. As we have no time to inspect the works, we just sign the statement given by the BPM.”
Poking fun at the authorities, villagers are now discussing that Sibtula GP is hero in pen and paper and zero in reality. They demanded a probe into the alleged misutilsation of funds.
