The student unrest in the National Institute of Technology(NIT), Rourkela, over alleged sexual abuse by the security officer (SO) of the institute of some of its lady security persons, has taken a new turn as two victim lady security guards lodged a FIR in local police station on Sunday evening.
The victim lady security guards in their FIR alleged that SO Balram Champatyray (55) had been regularly sexually abusing them for last five years and also threatening them of dire consequence if they revealed the matter to anyone. Police on Monday, besides registering a case, recorded statements of both the victims.
The students of NIT, who held demonstration, demanding expulsion of the SO from his job, are still continuing the stir, now demanding intervention of HRD Ministry. Champatyray, on the other hand, has absconded from the campus.
Police on Monday registered a case and recorded the statements of two victims. “Acting on the complaint of two lady security guards, a case has been registered by us and we have also recorded their statements in front of magistrate,” said DSP Rourkela PK Mishra. “Our investigation is on and we are now searching to nab the accused,” Mishra added.
