'New flyover, Metro to decongest Ranchi'

Sunday, 31 July 2016 | PNS | Ranchi

Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Saturday said that he will lay the foundation stone of a new flyover in Ranchi on October 2. He shared these plans during the foundation laying ceremony of rejuvenation work on Jaipal Singh Stadium and the proposed vendors’ market near it.

Discussing other projects of infrastructure development in Ranchi, Das stated that metro train network will be built to address the issue of growing bulk of traffic in Ranchi, along with widening of roads.

The new vending zone will house street vendors from all over Ranchi so that footpaths can be cleared for pedestrians. With small counters for the hawkers, this vending zone will also feature facilities like banquet hall and food courts.

“The Government is working towards the development of State as well as capital Ranchi along with ensuring dignified means of livelihood for the street vendors of the city. This vendors’ market is a step in that direction. In coming times, similar structures will be set up for vegetable vendors too,” said Das during the ceremony here on Saturday.

Urban Development Minister CP Singh stated that foundation stones of urban haat, convention centre and Ravindra Bhawan will also be laid soon.

Exhorting the people to keep their environments clean, Das urged them to come forward and add to the government’s efforts in keeping their city clean.

“The city is being developed as a tourist destination. Soon, people can enjoy revolving restaurant at Birsa Munda Jail Park. We have already moved ahead in the direction of making Ranchi a medical and IT hub,” Das said.

It is being deliberated to handover the task of running Sadar Hospital, Ranchi to Narayan Hrudayalaya. Representatives of the Bengaluru-based multi-speciality medical facility will visit Ranchi in August to advance talks in this direction. 10 acres of land will also be given to Hyderabad’s Dr Rao who is well-known for his work on pancreas-related ailments.

Infosys will help in making Ranchi an IT hub. CM Das urged youngsters to come to the city to set up start-ups, which will receive government aid too.

“On the lines of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s vision of ‘provision of all amenities in villages, State government is moving at quick pace for development of villages too. The tribal people in Jharkhand’s villages are also entitled to wide roads, electricity, water, irrigation, school and health facilities,” Das said.

Following the recent spat in last Assembly session over land tenancy legislations, Das made it clear that tribal lands will not be taken away without the permission of their owners.

“Four tims compensation will be given to them in lieu of their lands. It is on these lands that schools and hospitals will be built,” he added.
