The Ganjam district administration observed the Odisha Natural Disaster Day and the International Day for Disaster Reduction at its headquarters at Chhatrapur on Saturday.
School students organised a rally on the occasion. Collector in-charge Saroj Kumar Mishra inaugurated the rally and said, “We learnt from the Super Cyclone of 1999 how to tackle the cyclone situations.” A meeting was also held under the chairmanship of Additional Collector Bijaya Kumar Das at the Collectorate premises.
District I and PR Officer Gurbir Singh gave welcome address and shared the experience of the Super Cyclone on October 29, 1999. Sub-Divisional Officer Jitendra Kumar Bebartta explained about the first aid treatment at the time of disasters.
Sub-Collector laxmikanta Sethy was present among others and said, “Due to the advanced and modern technology, we can get the information about the cyclone much before.” Deputy Collector Pramod Sahoo coordinated the meeting. Deputy Collector (Revenue) Anjan Kumar Das and the ODRAF Assistant were present, among others.
