Amid the raging JNU row, the former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal in a scathing attack on Modi Government at the Centre on Sunday said that nationalism is not somebody’s patrimony.
Sibal while talking to media persons here on Sunday said, “Nationalism is not the patrimony of any particular community but its patrimony of the whole country and the people living in it.”
Sibal hinting at JNU row and sedition charges levelled against JNSU president Kanhaiya Kumar referred to a Supreme Court order said that no one could be charged with sedition on the basis of just raising slogans. The Modi regime is adopting the path of confrontation with the students of the country that is not correct, rather the Government should listen to the problems of students, he added.
He said that when the Governments fail to fulfill electoral promises then Haryana happens. The Modi Government came to power by making many promises including providing `15 lakh to every citizen and it’s about two years and there are no signs of the money so the people are on the roads to take the law in their hands. Whatever happened in Haryana is the fall-out of Modi Government’s promises, he added.
He also said that the Modi Government has sidelined the issue of development and is indulging in controversies and in these conditions democracy could not move ahead. After many years a non-Congress Government has come to power at the Centre with full majority. People of the country were expecting that this Government would do development as per its electoral promises but to their disappointment this Government at the place of doing development is creating controversies, he added.
Without naming Prime Minister Modi the former Union Minister said that power could be obtained by painting rosy pictures through speeches but it becomes difficult to fulfill the promises. My nationalism is towards my country not towards any Government, he added.
Sibal also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for keeping mum on several issues facing the nation. “We think Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of this country, but the Prime Minister still thinks of himself as an RSS pracharak first. Hadn’t that been the case, he would have spoken before the country on incidents in JNU and Hyderabad. Till date, he has not uttered any word about any Minister,” he said.
