The Madhya Pradesh Housing Board (MPHB) claims that it is not responsible for the quality of the construction after the building has been handed over to the local bodies.
While talking to The Pioneer, Board Chairman Krishna Murari Moghe said that the Board cannot be responsible for the poor construction of buildings after they have been handed over to local bodies. “While handing over the buildings to the local bodies, a fixed amount is provided for maintenance,” he added.
In connection with the recent collapse of an apartment in Maihar of Satna district, Moghe stated that it is yet to be decided whether the building collapsed only due to poor construction. “We are still waiting for the probe report, which is likely in next five days,” he added.
He informed that the MPHB is waiting for the investigation report in connection with the building collapse incident in Maihar of Satna district. The Board has not initiated any process towards compensation to the affected family that were living in the apartment that fell down during rains around 10 days ago.
Board Chairman Krishna Murari Moghe told ‘The Pioneer’ that the reason behind not conducting the inquiry by the Board was that the MPHB could get it probed by its engineers only. When the State government is conducting the probe, it is being investigated by engineers from other departments or independents. He said that the Board has already taken action against three contractors and six officials in the incident. “We are waiting for the probe report to take further action towards compensation to the affected families,” he added. In connection with ongoing projects in Jhabua and Dhar districts, where houses are being constructed and in coming projects too, Moghe assured that there would be no compromise with quality.
