A Panchayat Samiti Member belonging to the ruling BJD was critically injured and hospitalised after being thrashed by Maoists in Malkangiri district on Thursday night.
According to reports, Nakamamudi Panchayat Samiti Member Madhab Sisa was forcibly taken away from his house at Nilapadi village and beaten mercilessly by the Red rebels.
The Maoists fled the spot after injuring Sisa, who was spotted lying in an unconscious state on the outskirts of the village on Friday morning. Villagers admitted Sisa to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Notably, two persons had been shot dead by the Maoists in the Chitrakonda area of the district during the last couple of days.
