The call for Bharat Bandh by the opposition parties against demonetisation on Monday had negligible impact in Subarnapur district due to lack of public support.
The District Congress Committee led by president Shankar Dash took out a rally to protest the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. The party leaders and workers marched from the Townhall to the SBI main branch. later, a protest meeting was held in front of the SBI office.
Former MlA Binod Patra claimed the demonetisation was done hastily in an unplanned manner imposing untold miseries on common man. Among others, DCC president Jiendra Pattnaik, Sarbeswar Purohit and Seshadev Meher were present.
All educational institutions and private organisations remained closed during the day but Government offices and banks functioned. Several business establishments and shops in Dunguripali, Binka, and Ullunda however were functioning normally. No protest was held in Birmaharajpur block as Congress organisation is very weak here.
