The Bar Association of the district at a meeting on Friday decided to accelerate its agitation for a High Court Bench in Western Odisha. Though all the agitations were limited to the periphery of western Odisha, this time it would be held in front of the Orissa High Court in Cuttack, said Bar Association president Atanu Ghosh. Notably, the Central law Ministry has sought a report from the Orissa High Court to establish a new bench. Three months of time limit was given for the report. But after nine months, the High Court has not given the report to the Central law Ministry, Ghosh informed.
“We have also requested the Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court for an appointment and listen to our grievance. If the report from the High Court would not be sent in time, then 5,000 lawyers from Western Odisha would stage a Dharna,” he added.
The Central Action Committee (CAC) was also informed accordingly as to the future course of action, he said.
