The Navanirman Krushak Sangathan and Navanirman Chhatra Sangathan held a demonstration at the lower POMG here on Wednesday criticising the Central Government for deciding to implement the 7th Pay Commission's report.
They said that with the implementation of the new pay package, the Government employees would get fat salaries with a burden of Rs 1 lakh crore on the exchequer. They slammed the discriminatory policy of the Central Government against the farmers, unemployed youths and common people vis-a vis the Government employees.
Farmer leader Akshya Kumar asked what national interest it will serve when a Government employee gets over Rs 2 lakh per month when the old age pension is Rs 300 per month and the per head expenditure in MDM is Rs 4.50 in rural schools. He also asked if the Government has enough money to provide fat salaries to its employees why it is reluctant to hike MSP of paddy and pension of the farmers.
Sangathan co-coordinator Seshadev Nanda also came down heavily on the Centre for approving of the new pay saying that half the budgetary allocation would go to only 2 per cent of the population of the country. Besides, he said many States would go bankrupt when they would be forced to implement the new pay hike. He also maintained that the Central Government was planning to generate revenue to meet the new pay hike by getting Rs 30 from per liter of petrol by way of tax.
He lamented that while for 70 per cent population of the country who are farmers, the Government has allocated Rs 35,000 for irrigation, it is ready to spend Rs 1 lakh crore for its employees who constitute just 2 per cent of the population.
The Chhatra Sangathan demanded pension of Rs 2,000 to each unemployed youth.
Among others, economist Natabar Khuntia and columnist Tusarkant were present.
