Kickbacks paid in Agusta deal, alleges Congress

Saturday, 30 April 2016 | Staff Reporter | Raipur

The Congress party on Friday attacked the ruling BJP government in the State over purchase of a chopper manufactured by Agusta Westland Company and alleged that hefty kickbacks were paid in the deal.

Citing a report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) presented in 2011, the Chhattisgarh State Congress Chief Bhupesh Baghel said that CAG had raised objection over purchase of the chopper from Augusta Westland. He was addressing a press conference here.

“Tendering process was not followed and for extending benefit to only one company this tender was floated,” he claimed.

He further said that the chopper that was purchased by neighbouring Jharkhand in $55 lakh, the same model was procured in Chhattisgarh at $ 65.70 lakh (` 25.96 crore).
