ASI of Police, Bolagarh Police Station, Khordha Niranjan Mohapatra was caught red-handed by the Bhubaneswar Vigilance sleuths for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 from complainant Raghunath Pradhan of Swapneswarpur village in Khordha.
Complainant Pradhan had alleged that he had filed ICC case in the court of SDJM, Khurda against Gelli Pala Kanhu Jaisingh and others. On the basis of the case, IIC, Mohapatra was entrusted with investigation. However, when Pradhan met ASI Mohapatra several times requesting to arrest the accused persons and seizure of his motor cycle forcibly taken away by the accused persons, ASI Mohapatra did not take any action in the matter. later, on August 29, when the complainant met Mohpatra, he demanded Rs 5,000. Finding no other alternative, the complainant reported to the Vigilance. As per direction of SP, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division, a trap was laid on August 30 and ASI Mohapatra was nabbed while committing the crime.
In yet another incident, separate teams of Vigilance sleuths of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Rourkela on Tuesday conducted raids in the office, official residence and houses of Biramitrapur forest range officer Chandrasekhar Garnaik.
The raid was conducted in as many five locations, including his office at Biramitrapur, his residence at Pandey Colony, Rourkela, market complex cum building at Pallahara and his paternal house at Subarnapalli.
“We have prepared lists of his properties, including gold ornaments, bank deposits, landed properties, all movable and immovable assets,” said DSP Vigilance BK Nayak.
