In a crackdown on cricket betting following the IPl, police arrested two persons here at Raighar road on Thursdaynight.
“We have arrested two bookies and recovered Rs18, 80,000 cash, one TV set, five mobiles, one laptop, three dairies and one calculator from them,” said IIC Birendra Senapaty.
The bookies were identified as Ramij Hingora and V Srinivas Rao of Umarkote. Efforts are on to nab the other culprits involved in the crime, said Umarkote SDPO Gopinath Manipatro.
A case under Sections 294(A) and 420 of IPC was registered against them and they would be produced in the court of the JMFC on Friday, the IIC informed.
Some local denizens alleged that these illegal practices were going on here since long with the knowledge of the police but the police never took the issues seriously. The seized amount shown by the police is much less than the actual amount recovered from the bookies, they said.
