Accusing the investigation agencies of shielding Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said that despite strong evidence of Majithia’s involvement with drug cartel, the investigating agencies, whether the Enforcement Directorate(ED) or Punjab Police have not acted against the politically strong leader.
Addressing a Press conference in Chandigarh, AAP leader Ashish Khetan, accompanied by Sanjay Singh on Wednesday said that three smugglers nabbed by the ED in drugs case had named Bikram Singh Majitihia of being involved in smuggling drugs in the State.
Khetan also distributed the copies of the statements given to the ED by accused Jagdish Bhola, Maninderjit Aulakh and Jagjit Chahal.
He alleged that the drug cartel had become active in the state, just a few months after the Shiromani Akali Dal regained power in the state in 2007. And main players active in this drug cartel stayed in Majithia’s residence in Amritsar and even used his official vehicle and his security staff for carrying out their trade, said he.
The AAP leader said ED records showed that drugs worth thousands of crores were smuggled in and out of Punjab by cartels linked to Majithia. Punjab police obliterated evidence linking the arrested drug smugglers with the Revenue Minister who is in close relationship with the ruling Badal family.
Majithia’s mention was omitted from the statements of the drug smugglers recorded by Punjab Police, said Khetan while adding that the same smugglers narrated Majithia’s role in detail while recording their statements before ED.
