The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Odisha branch would observe March 10 as Protest Day all over the State to fight for the interests of 1.5 crore unorganised workers in the State.
“Around 1.5 crore workers are working in unorganised sectors in the State. But they are yet to get proper social security and health facilities. The INTUC will continue its fight till all unorganised workers get these facilities,” INTUC State president Dr Rama Chandra Khuntia at the working committee meet held here on Sunday.
The Central Government is taking up many steps for the benefit of investors and industrialists but at the cost of laboruers’ benefits. He opposed the Narendra Modi Government’s proposal to amend the labour law. “The amendment is aimed at protecting the interest of industrialists and owners at the cost of workers,” he alleged.
The body also demanded hike in retirement age of private companies’ employees from 58 to 60 like that of the Government employees, said general secretary Harish Gourang. “We have also submitted a 12-point-charter of demands to the Central Government much earlier, but the Government is yet to fulfill it,” he added.
