Infra growth at Kalijai railway station sought

Sunday, 30 October 2016 | PNS | Bhubaneswar

A delegation led by former Assembly Deputy Speaker Rama Chandra Panda met ECoR General Manager Umesh Singh here and urged him to provide basic amenities for safety and welfare of the railway users at the Kalijai railway station, which is near the pilgrimage site of Maa Kalijai.

Kalijai Development Mancha organiser Padma Charan Sahoo, journalist Ashok Tripathy, local teacher Ranjit Kumar Subuddhi, Ganjam Vikash Mancha organiser Manu Mohaptra and advocate Banita Mohaptra were present.

Because of absence of a lengthy platform, frequent accidents are taking place at Kalijai, said Panda. The team also demanded a passenger restroom there.

The delegation urged the GM to take a decision for extension of the Raja Rani Express to Gunupur so that it would provide a direct rail communication between South Odisha and Western Odisha.

The locals are also demanding revival of the British Time Passenger Halt at the Brahmapur Industrial Estate area, Panda added.
