The weathermen forecasting light rain/snow for three days starting from December 31 in several districts of the state like Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi, the people here might brace up for either a snowy or rain-drenched New Year. At the same time, there would be thick blanket of fog in a large stretch of the state, particularly in the plain districts like Nainital, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar during the next 12 hours, said Met director Bikram Singh on Friday.
He said that the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 23.7º C (four degree above the normal) and 7.6º C (two degree above the normal) in Dehradun respectively while it was 12.4ºC (normal) and 4.3º C (three degree above the normal) in Mukteshwar, 15.0º C and 4.0º C in Tehri and 22.7º C (three degree above the normal) and 9.0º C (four degree above normal) in Pantnagar on Friday.
According to him, snowfall is likely to occur at places with height of 3000 M and above on January 1. Very light to light rain/snow has been forecast at isolated places across Kumaon region of Uttarakhand on January 2. However, dry weather would return on January 3, he added.
The Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation hovering over northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir and neighbourhood has moved away in the east north direction. Minimum temperatures remained normal to above normal in the plains while they were normal in the hills of Uttarakhand. lowest minimum temperature 1°C was recorded in Nainital.
The weather forecast for Dehradun on Saturday is clear to partly sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 23 degree Celsius and 8 degree Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Saturday, Singh added.
