The State Government has finally allotted 60 acres land to IIM-Ranchi for setting up its permanent campus, acceding to a plea for alternative land after defiant villagers compelled the B-school authorities to virtually abort the authorities’ decision earlier to set campus in Cheri village of Kanke in Ranchi.
All mandatory procedures to allot land to IIM-R have been completed by the State government and concerned authorities. The New IIM-R campus will come up at HEC, near CRPF camp soon. The site selection committee from the management cradle too has given its approval to the 60 acres land, which will be converted into IIM-R permanent campus and research centre.
Ranchi DC Manoj Kumar said, “All the processes so far have been cleared from the government side. 60 acres land has been allotted to IIM-R. The decision was taken approximately three months back in which Principal Secretary along with the officials of Planning development department gave its approval on the matter.”
“This time 120 acres has been allotted to set approximately 15-16 educational institutions which will be further developed into an educational hub. After the approval from Cabinet, the IIM project work is in progress and only deed of conveyance is left which will be soon signed between the parties in the coming days,” added Kumar.
On December 28 and 29, a team of site selection committee from Union HRD and IIM board too visited the proposed land for the management institute. “The members of committee too were satisfied with the demarcated site. It is noteworthy that, now the permanent campus of the renowned B-school will be located within the city which will be much easier and convenient to access for students,” said Kumar.
IIM-Ranchi, which is presently functioning from Suchna Bhavan in the Capital, has been struggling hard to set up its permanent campus since 2011. Approximately 76 acres land in Nagri, 12 km from the capital, was allotted to IIM-R for setting up a campus and resource centre but was later cancelled due to locals’ violent protest. later, with the consent of all the authorities the proposal for permanent campus was shifted to Cheri and there too things did not turn out creating disputes between the authorities and local villagers.
