The Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (IGAU) has been chosen as the 'Best National Seed Project Unit' by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi (ICAR) for 2015-16 financial year.
There are around 41 units across the nation functioning under the National Seed Project Unit.
The award was given to the Project In-charge Dr PK Chandrakar by Indian Council of Agricultural Research Director General Dr Trilochan Mohapatra during the 31st Annual Workshop of the Council at Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur on April 19.
Notably, the National Seed Project was set up at IGAU in 1993-94.
The seed breeding of as many as 52 varieties of the major crops of Chhattisgarh namely paddy, wheat, soyabean, mustard and linseed are carried out as per the guidelines of the Central Government and accordingly distributed in various parts of the country.
