To promote cashless transactions in the State, Haryana Government has decided to give Rs five as a token of appreciation to each person who would get himself registered on Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and other mode of cashless transaction.
The Chief Minister Manohar lal while presiding over a meeting of bankers to promote cashless transactions said that the incentive of Rs five would be admissible upto December 15.The aim of the project is to develop a cashless society in the state, said he.
UPI is a quick and easy way to send and receive money using a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) without entering additional bank information and USSD, a Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication technology.
The Chief Minister urged the bankers to launch a campaign to promote cashless transactions and educate the citizens by installing canopies outside bank premises so that people, especially of rural areas easily switch over to cashless modes of payments.
He also directed the officers of Haryana unit of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to prepare a software for effective implementation of the scheme aimed at giving an incentive of Rs five.
During the meeting, it was informed that bankers would deploy adequate staff for promotion of incentive based scheme and continue this campaign upto December 31, 2016. During this period, banks would guide the common people about various modules of online and cashless transactions, especially the demonstration of the UPI and USSD. Banks will also prepare a daily chart of people guided and maintain its record.
The Chief Minister also asked the bankers to open more bank accounts in the name of women by launching a special drive so as to facilitate them, especially the housewives. The Chief Minister was apprized that banking applications have been launched to motivate the people to have cashless and more digital society.
Recently, Haryana Government had directed all departments, corporations and boards to install swipe machines and provide necessary infrastructure to facilitate the common man, including employees, to pay government dues through electronic mediums like debit and credit cards, especially the RuPay cards, without any difficulty.
In keeping with the RBI decision, the State Government had also decided to facilitate the people by allowing the use of old currency notes Rs 500 denomination up to December 15 at specified places and for specific purposes.
