During the ongoing paddy procurement season, Haryana has so far procured 41,844 metric tonnes (MT) of paddy as against 40,906 MT of paddy that had arrived during the corresponding period last year.
While the Government procurement agencies have purchased 39,011 MT of paddy, millers and dealers have purchased 2,833 MT paddy, said a spokesman of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.
Referring to arrival of paddy in the mandis (grain markets) of different districts, he said that so far, 19,391 MT of paddy has arrived in Kurukshetra, 12,280 MT in Kaithal, 6,353 MT in Ambala and 3,820 MT paddy has arrived in Yamunanagar.
Farmers have been advised to clean and dry their produce properly before bringing it to the market so that they do not have to face any problem.
A day before, Haryana Government had allocated 13 districts to the administrative secretaries of different departments for inspection of mandis (grain markets) where paddy will be arrived and procured. The State Government had also enforced the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) for a period of six months prohibiting the employees of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department to go on strike as it would adversely affect the ongoing procurement process.
