Barely a few months after being released from jail in the sensational casting couch case, trouble seems to be mounting for standup comedian Tattwa Prakash Satpathy aka Papu Pompom again for his controversial remark on lord Jagannath during the closing ceremony of the Puri Beach Festival here on Sunday.
Even though the actor apologised for such statement on stage after some servitors, devotees and audience protested, the Jagannath Sena, an outfit fighting for the protection of Jagannath culture, lodged a complaint on Tuesday at the Sea Beach police station demanding his arrest.
On the other hand, Binayak Das Mohapatra, Biswabasu Sevak of Shree Jagannath Temple here, has demanded that Papu should bend on his knees and apologise at Singhadwara, or else a criminal case would be filed against him.
Similarly, Puri Bar Association president Premananda Mohanty threatened that the actor shouldn’t be allowed to perform at programmes in Puri.
Protesting the incident, the Jagannath Sena burnt the effigy of Papu at the Swargadwar here.
Notably, while performing Papu Pompom said basil (tulasi) leaves over which street dogs pee everyday are used in the rituals of lord Jagannath. He further went on to say that those who utter ‘Jay Jagannath’ are sinners (papi), sources said.
Tension gripped the spot following the incident as several lord Jagannath devotees present near the stage protested the act and created ruckus demanding public apology from Papu.
Normalcy returned after Papu apologised for his remarks on stage.
