Finish ludhiana 'Safe City Project' by Oct, says Sukhbir

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday issued instructions to finish ‘Safe City Project’ in ludhiana by October this year to streamline the traffic and make it a crime free city.

Presiding over a meeting here, Badal said that this project assumes great significance for Punjab because ludhiana is the biggest city of the state from Industrial point of view apart from having a very large population. Not only this, but the city also occupies numero uno spot amongst the highly reputed cities of Punjab.

He said Amritsar and ludhiana were already selected among 27 cities across the nation under safe city project where advanced technology system would be used to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

Badal said with coming to fruition of the ‘ludhiana Safe City Project’, the traffic system of the city would be more streamlined besides proving to be of immense help in making the city crime free. The Deputy CM elaborated that the project would be the first step towards city achieving ‘Smart City’ status by installing of 1442 ultra modern CCTV cameras at 159 spots in the city thereby keeping hawk’s eye on every nook & corner.He added that Punjab government would also engage all commercial establishments, malls, banks, educational institutions, railway stations, industries etc to share regular footage of cameras already installed on their premises for security purposes. Besides this, great stress on the installation of speed cameras on all state highways and special cameras on all traffic light points.
