Jabalpur Howrah Shaktipunj express train was stoned and its engine ransacked by a motley crowd of 2,000 examinees on Saturday at the Daltonganj railway station of Dhanbad railway division.
Sources said the incident occurred around 3 in the afternoon. It took more than an hour to restore normality on the Daltonganj railway station.
Sources said the brawl erupted when RPF could not handle the situation properly and went into unwarranted argument and preventive tactics in which the examinees who had come for police recruitment here at 14 centres wanted to board this express train by hook and crook and even tried to occupy space/seat/.berth in this Howrah bound express train alreasy reserved for passengers which led to a total chaos on the railway station here.
All hell came on this Daltonganj railway station when examinees stoned the coaches. They stormed into the railway engine and ransacked it too. Crew members were roughed up. Examinees went onto the railway track. Ransacking of engine 'failed' it which was replaced by railway officials.
Sources said there was panic and fear on this railway station. Passengers bound for Howrah had a tough time. They came out of their reserved coaches in sheer nervousness fearing the crowd might set afire the coaches, But none such thing occurred.
Railway officials as usual remained tight lipped. From station superintendent G P Hansda to railway traffic inspector A K Sinha declined to share any information citing ' too much busy'.
DIG police Saket K Singh said ' These railway people sought our help and we rushed in police forces there'. Headded with the arrival of police force there things started calming down fast.
DIG further added the examinees were on their back home journey after trying their luck for job in police force at 14 centres here and naturally their number was enormous and every one had to return by this Shaktipunj express train but train's space capacity was limited while its occupants were in few thousands..
DIG stressed that RPF could not estimate the situation accurately and got into brawl with these examinees which led to the chaotic situation on this railway station here.
DIG confirmed the examinees stoned the coaches, disrupted and dislocated things in the engine, smashed the screen and sat on the railway tracks. The express train started for its onward journey after six in the evening said railway sources.
Sources said the Daltonganj railway officials are always in news for wrong reasons like derailment of rice train by timber bundle on railway track, derailment of goods train by rats on railway line number 6. smart pilfering of coal in Daltonganj railway station, but to prove that RPF is working this force books people smoking on platform while coal pilferer walks freely.
