The Vigilance Special Court, Bhubaneswar on Wednesday convicted former Kuchinda Kendu leaf Division DFO laxmidhar Bhoi in a disproportionate assets case and sentenced him to undergo a rigorous imprisonment or two years and imposed a fine of Rs3 lakh on him. He would undergo another six months' of RI if fails to pay the fine, the court said while finding him guilty of possessing disproportionate assets worth of Rs8,06,422.
The court awarded this punishment on an accumulation of disproportionate assets case filed against Bhoi in 1997. Bhoi's official residence and office chamber at Kuchinda, Sambalpur and residential house at Geetagram, Angul had been searched simultaneously and disproportionate assets worth of Rs11,87,347 detected. Bhoi had joined the Government service as Forest Ranger on October 3, 1962. Thereafter, he had been promoted to the rank of Assistant Conservator of Forest in 1972 and then to the rank of Deputy Conservator of Forest in 1987. He remained Divisional Forest Officer (Kendu leaf) in Jeypur Kendu leaf Division and Kuchinda Kendu leaf Division from 1992 till 2002. He retired on March 31, 2002.
