Ex-FCI officer gets 3-yr RI for taking bribe

The special judge for CBI  Bhopal sentenced Mahesh Bajpai to three-year Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and a fine of `15,000, and, in default of payment of fine further RI of 3 months.

Notably, CBI Bhopal Branch had registered the Case No RC0082012A0012, U/s Sec 7 & 13(2) r/w 13 (1) (d)  of PC Act, 1988 on November 20, 2012, on the basis of a witten complaint lodged by Rajesh Kumar, Proprietor of Messers  Chetan Trading Company, RB Ware Housing and logistics, Jabalpur Road, Baheriya, Sagar, against Mahesh Bajpai, Assistant Grade-I, FCI, Itarsi, Distt-Hoshangabad.

It was alleged by the complainant that Bajpai while posted and functioning as an Assistant Grade-I, FCI, Itarsi, District Hoshangabad, demanded a bribe of `79,500  that was at the rate `3 per quintal) for releasing the 26,500 quintal wheat purchased by him. After negotiation Bajpai reduced the demanded bribe amount from `79,500/-to `35,000 and obtained `10,000  in advance.

Accordingly, a trap was laid on against Bajpai on November 20, 2012 wherein he was caught red handed by CBI Team while accepting the remaining bribe amount of `25,000 from the complainant Rajesh Kumar.

After completion of investigation, a Chargesheet U/s and Sec 7 & 13 (2) r/w 13(1) (d)  PC Act, 1988 was filed against the accused person on December 27, 2012 in the  Court of Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bhopal

After concluding the trial, the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhopal convicted the accused persons vide his order on Tuesday August 30, 2016.

Pataudi’s lawyer Rajesh Pancholi said, “MPHC has given a stay in the matter of 31 notices to people residing in Khanugoan. These properties were of the employees of the Bhopal Nawab for decades and constructions are older than the MP municipal corporation Act, 1956.”

Pataudi’s lawyer was critical of the BMC for inaction against other properties that also fall within the FTl level of the Upper lake. “We have presented photographic evidence many new constructions that fall within FTl have been overlooked by the BMC. We are for the Upper lake to be pollution free. However, BMC action in the matter has been directed with mala fide intention,” he alleged.

BMC mayor Alok Sharma said, “MPHC decision has been brought to my notice. We will review the notice and act accordingly.”
