The Election Commission of India has started preparing for the 2017 UP Assembly elections and for this an ECI team would be visiting lucknow next week.
After taking charge on Saturday, newly appointed Chief Electoral Officer of UP, T Venkatesh, confirmed the visit of the EC team on
August 3-4 for assessing preparations and associated measures for ensuring peaceful, transparent and impartial elections.
Venkatesh, a 1988 batch IAS officer of UP cadre, said that the revision of electoral rolls are underway in the state since April 1 last.
“Election commission is committed to ensuring free and fair polls in UP and all necessary arrangements would be made accordingly,” he said.
However the CEO clarified that the Assembly polls would be held as per schedule butdid not give any specific month for it.
The announcement for UP Assembly polls in 2012 was announced on December 24, 2011 and it was held in seven phases between February and March.
