Due to a rise in temperature by four notches, Dehradun residents suffered from hot and humid condition on Wednesday. Sporadic drizzling failed to provide relief from the sultry climate. Rather the spell of drizzling aggravated the condition. The Met office has, however, forecast light to moderate rain/thunderstorm at many places in Uttarakhand on Thursday.
Heavy rain is likely to occur in Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Almora, Pauri, Dehradun and Uttarkashi districts of Uttarakhand for three days, starting from July 1. This would end the sultry spell, assured the weathermen. In Dehradun district, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 36.4ºC Celsius and 24.4º Celsius respectively on Wednesday.
State Meteorological Centre director Bikram Singh on Wednesday said that the people are likely to get relief from hot and humid conditions as rainfall is expected in the next few days across the state. The weather forecast for Thursday for Dehradun is party to generally cloudy sky and rain/thundershowers at some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be hovering around 33ºC and 24ºC respectively in Dehradun on Thursday.
Singh further informed that the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 36.4ºC Celsius and 24.4º Celsius in Dehradun while it was 24.5ºC and 16.3ºC in Mukteshwar, 29.2ºC and 19.0ºC in Tehri, 35.6ºC and 27.1ºC in Pantnagar on Wednesday.
Over the past 24 hours by 8.30 am on Wednesday, rainfall was reported at few places in the state. While 40.0 mm rainfall was reported in Munsiyari it was 25.4 mm in Joshimath, 9.4 mm in Pithoragarh, 2.8 mm in Champawat, 0.4 mm in Pantnagar, 2.0 mm in Mussoorie, it is learnt.
