The two-day annual general meeting (AGM) of the All India Milli Council (AIMC) has decided that it would appeal to the community to ensure that the communal forces do not come to power in forthcoming Assembly polls in five States.
The AIMC came to this decision in its two-day meeting that concluded here on Saturday. It was decided that the AIMC would appeal to the community to ensure by voting in favor of secular parties that the communal forces should not come to power in the coming elections to five states Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur, he added.
This was the 18th AGM of the Muslim body that discussed among others the contentious issues of Uniform Civil Code and Babri Masjid besides establishing unity among various factions of the community, role in coming assembly elections in some states, education status of community and new education policy of Central Government and representation and partnership of community in central and state governments.
Addressing the media persons after the meet AIMC president Maulana Hakim Mohammed Abdulla Mughesi and general secretary Manzoor Alam said, “During the two day deliberations we have arrived on consensus on many issues affecting especially the community and in general the social fabric of the country.”
Maulana Mughesi said, “We have decided to step up campaign against ‘infringement’ on the religious rights and practices of Muslims. We also oppose the move of the Union government on the triple Talaq issue and common civil code and we endorse the stand of All India Muslim Personal law Board (AIMPlB) over these issues.”
Maulana Mughesi further said that we would continue to work for establishing unity among various factions of the community a resolution has also been passed in the AGM over the issue. Besides, the AGM unanimously passed other resolutions including that it would support AIMPlB’s stand over the issue of uniform civil code and would oppose tooth and nail any bid to construct temple at the place of Babri Masjid especially when the issue is sub judice.
He said that we condemn central government for making efforts to change historical facts, removing names of Muslim freedom fighters and including names of those who does not have any role in freedom struggle besides imposing new educational policy that are not acceptable to us and that all out efforts would be made to empower community members and to groom youngsters to develop leadership.
Earlier, the AIMC welcome committee President and All India Muslim Personal law Board member Arif Masood in his welcome address said that the community would unitedly oppose Central Government’s move to impose new education policy and uniform civil code.
