Dist admin gears up for upcoming monsoon

The district administration has pulled up its socks as the monsoon  is  drawing near. Taking a review meeting on Friday at the collectorate in Roshanabad, district magistrate Harbans Singh Chugh gave directions to the officials to earmark the sensitive areas and take necessary safety measures while keeping coordination among various departments. He stressed on the  administration remaining  on its highest guard to meet   any exigency like flood that the monsoon might trigger.

Speaking to The Pioneer, Chugh said, “In all the four tehsils of the district, flood control posts and police vigilance posts have been set  up. The officials  would be deputed 24 hours on the check posts.”

He further stated that they must physically inspect the flood- prone areas like previous years. Also the assessment of livestock, family members and the like must be done right before the monsoon arrives. They must have  a  machinery ready to  shift the people and the livestock if flood  comes about, he  said, adding that  arrangements must be made to ensure  electricity arrangements, clean drinking water and other necessities.  He also stressed  on  sufficient  food grains, kerosene oil, boats, cooking gas, and battery torches  to be kept ready to meet  emergency.  He further  said that  the divers must be  kept ready for  an emergency. DM has  asked   the officials to keep their mobile phones on all the while.

 The chief medical officer who also attended the meeting  asked the administration to be fully prepared for various water- borne diseases that come up  during the monsoon.  The DM on his part asked the health department to sprinkle pesticides to check spread of epidemic aside from keeping   adequate stock  of the required medicines. He directed the irrigation department officials to repair the river embankments and give instant alert whenever the water level is found rising.

Chugh further asked the departments to take assistance from social organisations and train youths between 18 to 35 years for disaster management.
