D'garh farmers trained on ornamental fish farming

In order to popularise ornamental fish farming and give fish farmers a financial boost, the Fisheries Department in Deogarh recently organised a training camp where the experts narrated the benefits of this programme.

“Ornamental fish farming is a profitable business and its price is more than the edible ones. At the same time, the farmers also lots of charm from it,” said the district fishery officer (DFO) of Deogarh Narottam Nayak. The experts also explained the participants how to prepare food for such fish. Besides consuming in own farms, it could also be sold in the markets to those having aquarium in their homes. Since, people increasingly fancy keeping aquariums at home in the State, producing ornamental fish and their food will be a profitable business, the experts said.

Mostly training was imparted to such people who have been displaced due to different reasons including industry and dam projects. The participants were taught all technicalities from selection of pond to marketing to make it an all time profession and a profitable business. All the important personalities of Barkot block of Deogarh district and senior officials of the Fishery department were present.
