Dehradun police have arrested three persons on the charge of committing thefts at various places in Premnagar and other parts of the State capital, on Wednesday.
In view of increasing theft cases, Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date formed a team comprising Premnagar police station in-charge Shankar Singh Bisht. Police received a tip-off that two persons were reaching Dehradun from Bijnor to sell stolen items.
Two persons-Zahir Abbas and Avnish, natives of Bijnor, -were arrested. Police recovered stolen items-ten laptops of different companies and eight wallets containing `5,000 from their possession. In course of interrogation, the accused are learnt to have admitted their offenses and revealed that they had stolen the laptops from the rooms of the students who stayed near the colleges and universities. One more person named Afsar, native of Moradabad, involved in thefts has been absconding. Team members are working hard to arrest the absconder.
In another incident, police arrested a thief Basu Bahuguna, resident of Cantt, and recovered a wallet containing `1,600 from his possession. The accused had stolen the purse from a Kaulagarh resident Shahid Hasan while brandishing a knife when the latter was going home from his shop on June 28.
In course of interrogation, he said he had committed the theft to purchase drugs as he has been addicted to it.
