Congress workers try to barge into jail, arrested

Over 300 Congress workers on Wednesday attempted to barge into the Umarkote Sub-Jail reiterating their demand of early release of arrested former party MP Pradip Majhi and others.

later, the protestors also gheraoed the Umarkote police station to press their demand. Over 15 men and women agitators were arrested by the police in this connection.

On June 25, Majhi and 17 other local Congress members were arrested for allegedly ransacking the Raighar Forest Range office and beating forest and police employees and were forwarded to jail on June 26.

Since then, the former MP and his associates are observing hunger strike at the jail.

On Tuesday, a dawn-to-dusk Nabarangpur bandh was also observed to protest against the arrest of Majhi and others.
