Chief Minister Raman Singh on Saturday sanctioned Rs49 crore to upgrade a 100-year-old British-era unused road between Bilaspur and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.
The all-weather road will reduce the distance between Bilaspur and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh by 25 kilometers, officials informed.
The distance between the Bilaspur and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh is 345 kilometers.
The Chief Minister met a delegation from Kabirdham and Mungeli districts at his official residence in Raipur who had urged the Chief Minister to upgrade the British era road.
The delegation thanked Singh for sanctioning funds for laying of 25-kilometer road connecting Fastarpur-Pratapur-Mohagaon-Pandatarai.
They informed the Chief Minister that the Britis -era road is in a totally dilapidated state. The villagers residing in the region had been requesting the authorities to upgrade the road for the convenience of surrounding 50 villages.
Notably, the Chhattisgarh Government has accorded approval for construction of 234 new roads measuring a total of 1200 kms comprising project outlay of Rs491.67 crores in 16 districts of the State during the current financial year, officials informed.
The Government has completed construction of 5266 cement concrete (CC) roads having a total length of 1530 kms in various villages of the State as on May 31, 2016 under 'Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojana', officials informed.
Till date, 6182 works have been approved for construction of concrete roads measuring 1734 kms, under this scheme. A sum of Rs1038 crore have been sanctioned for these works.
Panchayat and Rural Development Department officials informed that 'Mukhyamantri Gram Gaurav Path Yojana' was started in year 2012-13, on the lines of Gaurav Path scheme being in cities, under which cement concrete roads and drains are constructed in villages, officials informed.
This scheme has provision to build roads of minimum 200m and maximum 500m length, with width of 6m. Under this scheme, it is compulsory to build drain on one side of the road.
Officials informed that 88 per cent of approved works, including ongoing works of year 2015-16, have been completed at the cost of nearly Rs711 crore.
Budget provision of Rs250 crores was made for Mukhyamantri Gaurav Path Yojana for year 2015-16. In the current fiscal year, Rs175 crore have been provisioned in the budget.
Meanwhile, the Chhattisgarh Road Development Corporation (CGRDC) has identified 61 different projects for construction of roads.
Out of 61 roads, 56 Roads covering length of 1859.25 kms have been identified for development under Hybrid Annuity Model and 5 roads under (B0T) Toll mode, officials stated.
