Captain, Kejriwal misfit for exercise like Sangat Darshan: Badal

Thursday, 30 June 2016 | PNS | Amritsar

Terming that pro-people exercise like Sangat Darshan was not every Chief Minister 's ‘cup of tea’, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said that once bitten, twice shy Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and state Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh were complete misfit for this exercise.

Badal, addressing the public gatherings in various villages during his Sangat Darshan in Rajasansi assembly segment, said that when voted to power, neither Kejriwal nor Amarinder bother about public welfare.

“There is no Chief Minister in the entire country who visits every village of the state in scorching heat or spine chilling cold. However, during SAD-BJP alliance Government, I undertook this massive exercise to ensure well-being of every strata of society,” he said.

Badal said that it was on record that on lines of Sangat Darshan, Kejriwal had tried his luck for holding Janta Darbar in Delhi. “However, this move proved to be a total disaster as the Delhi Chief Minister was not able to undertake this exercise for a single day. Ultimately, Kejriwal ran away from his words and never conducted this exercise,” he added.

“likewise, state Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh had never bothered to meet the people during his regime. Now, in false hope of becoming Chief Minister, Captain has announced to hold 'darbars' in every constituency. In these imperial darbars, Captain just indulges in self-glorification and bashing of political rivals without even thinking of public welfare,” said Badal.

Badal said that this was a futile exercise as neither the former Chief Minister has will not interest to undertake public welfare. “Captain is a king who wants to attain power for enjoying rather than serving the people,” he added.

Citing another example of indifferent attitude of Captain towards people, the Chief Minister asked people whether they have seen Capt Amarinder Singh, who was their local MP, after the general elections.

“It is a habit of Captain that he goes to hibernation after getting power, which he uses just for his enjoyment rather than public welfare. Voters of Amritsar lok Sabha constituency are repenting their decision to elect Captain as MP as he never returned back to his constituency,” he said.

Badal, later interacting with the media persons, slammed the AAP leadership for issuing statement to review power subsidy being given to farmers, once voted to power.

“Rs5,000 crore annual power subsidy to the farmers by State Government is a humble tribute by it towards the immense contribution of food growers of country, who had played a key role in making the country self-reliant in food production. Withdrawal of this subsidy would mean an additional burden on already indebted farmers of the State,” said Badal.

He added that the statement of AAP leadership has exposed its anti-farmer and anti-people stance.

BADAl SEEKS SPECIAl PACKAGE FOR BORDER AREAS FROM CENTRE

Chief Minister Badal has sought a special package for State’s border areas from the Central Government to help the brave residents of these areas.

“It would be the best thing in recognition to the immense contribution of residents of these areas,” said Badal. Badal said that he had been raising this issue continuously with the Centre.

“I hope that NDA Government at the Centre would pay due consideration towards this long pending demands of Punjabis,” he added.

Describing the residents of border districts as true patriots, Badal said that these brave sons of soil had suffered a lot due to partition. “Had division of country not taken place, this region would have been the most prosperous part of the country.

However, due to partition, the progress of these areas has lagged behind due to which State Government is giving special focus on development of this region,” he said.
