BJP takes dig at Navjot Kaur for joining Cong

Wednesday, 30 November 2016 | PNS | Chandigarh

Punjab BJP on Tuesday took a dig at former MP Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu for joining Congress, alleging that it reeked of sheer opportunism on part of the Sidhus and Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh.

“Politics does make strange bedfellows. It is the same Navjot Kaur Sidhu who used to deride Amarinder Singh and slam his lifestyle as socially unacceptable and now she has shown no qualms in joining his party,” Punjab BJP secretary Vineet Joshi, said in a statement.

“Kaur had termed the PPCC chief as power hungry slamming him for going into ‘hibernation’ for 4 years and earning profits sitting in Dubai without showing any concern either for his party, his workers or for Punjab. She had said that with elections round the corner, Captain had suddenly started paying lip-service. Sidhu had once given Amarinder a big zero out of ten for his performance as Amritsar’s representative in the Parliament,” Joshi alleged.

The BJP leader said, “Similarly Amarinder Singh’s feelings about the couple are not hidden from anyone. He had ridiculed Navjot Singh Sidhu by stating that politics was serious business not a comedy show and that he never wanted another trouble-maker after Jagmeet Brar to be in his party.

“Now, when both husband and wife were left lurching high and dry, they suddenly found an alternative and that too in the same person who according to her bore an unacceptable behavior. This is sheer opportunism at play.”

Kaur, who had contested last Punjab Assembly polls on BJP ticket, has joined Congress along with former hockey captain Pargat Singh.
