BJP Mahila Morcha to gherao CM's residence on Monday

Sunday, 31 January 2016 | PNS | Dehradun

Scores of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad women activists who have been staging  a stir said they are agitating in support of  the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha’s demand for a  CBI inquiry into the alleged rape and abortion of a Nari Niketan inmate  and the recent death of two other inmates of the shelter home. They have been staging a sit-in outside Gandhi Park in Dehradun for the past eight days.

Meanwhile,  BJP Mahila Morcha has decided to gherao the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday in support of their demand for a CBI or a high-level inquiry in the Nari Niketan case. A number of ABVP and Morcha activists assembled at Gandhi Park on Saturday and shouted slogans against the State government for its reluctance to  recommend a  high- level inquiry into the shoddy things that allegedly had happened at the government -run shelter home.

The woman protesters said that they have been protesting for the past seven days on the issue, but to no avail. “The  State government has been sitting on it. Its design is sinister,” said Babita Sahotra, a BJP leader.

She said that  the people are for  CBI probe to unravel things and to nail the people  involved in it. “They say the inquiry being conducted by the state government agencies must prove eyewash. For instance, a committee led by ADM as formed by DM conducted an inquiry into the death of the home’s inmates.  But no one was found guilty and no responsibility was fixed,” she said.

She alleged that the State government is not serious into the death of the inmates  that have recently occurred in the home. “The indifference of the State Government on such a sensitive matter showcases how insensitive it is via-a-vis the plight and honour  of the women. They keep on paying glowing lip service to their cause, but on the ground, they could have cared less as far as the deaths of the two unfortunate inmates of the home are concerned,” she said.

Another BJP senior leader Umesh Aggarwal said that as many as 12 inmates of the  home had died over the past three years due to negligence of  the State government. “We  are convinced that the State government is stonewalling  the CBI probe as they know that some names would come out which would make them hang their heads in shame,” he said, adding that his party would not rest till the people really involved in it are nailed and punished.
