In a prompt move, the BJP on Tuesday observed a 12-hour bandh at Chhendipada in Angul district demanding resignation and arrest of the four BJD MlAs who had reportedly demanded money for facilitating establishment of industries in their respective constituencies.
The saffron party observed the bandh just a day after video footages showing four MlAs, Seemarani Nayak of Hindol, Susant Behera of Chhendipada, Bijay Nayak of Karanjia and Anam Nayak of Bhawanipatna, demanding money for giving ‘no objection certificates’ and facilitating land acquisition in their constituencies was aired in a local news channel.
While Seemarani was seen asking for a bribe of `40 crore to help obtain a NOC for an industry interested to set up a textile mill in Dhenkanal district, the Chhendipada MlA seen demanding `8 crore to help setting up of a power plant in Angul.
Similarly, the video showed Karanjia MlA Bijay Nayak demanding `5 crore for facilitating setting up of a power unit in his constituency and the first time Bhawanipatna MlA Anam Nayak was seen demanding money for extending help for establishment of a power plant in his constituency in Kalahandi district.
The BJP workers burnt posters and effigies of the MlAs here.
Besides, party activists also staged demonstrations at Baripada, Bhawanipatna and Karanjia, sources said.
