Union Rural Development Minister Birender Singh on Monday filed his nomination papers from Haryana for Rajya Sabha polls.
The Union Minister has been re-nominated for the Rajya Sabha seat from Haryana, which has two seats in Rajya Sabha, both falling vacant on August 1.
Singh filed his nomination papers at Haryana Vidhan Sabha here. After filing his nomination papers, the Union Minister expressed gratitude toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah for re-nominating him for election to Rajya Sabha from Haryana for the second time.
He added that the party had expressed faith in him and he would always advocate for the interests of Haryana.
While the BJP has re-nominated Birender Singh to Parliament from one seat, a contest is on the cards for the other seat as none of the parties in the State Assembly can now elect the second member without the rival party’s
support. Rajya Sabha
elections are scheduled for June 11.
Sources said that Dr Subhash Chandra, chairman of Essel Group is likely to file his nomination as an independent candidate from Haryana on Tuesday.
BJP and other independent MlAs have already assured support to Subhash Chandra. The Essel Group chairman has good relationship with both BJP and INlD leaders.
Talking to the
mediapersons about the nomination to the second seat, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Monday said that talks are on with the opposition parties
regarding this.
