leader of Opposition in Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday called upon Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to seek intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the river waters issue. He maintained as per the constitution, the President acts upon the advice of the Council of Ministers.
“It is the Prime Minister who can tender advice to the President on this sensitive issue and the President is bound to accept the advice under normal circumstances”, he added
Channi also slammed Badal for misleading the people in the State over the years by saying that not a drop of water would be allowed to flow out. “Mr Badal should rather tell the people, not in just Punjab but to the countrymen, that about 75 per cent of the water from Punjab rivers is already flowing to Haryana and Rajasthan. This started with the Bhakra dam itself whose command area also included Rajasthan and that was the first project in this region after 1947. This was before the 1955 apportionment. The facts must be before the people”, he said.
