The Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists (SGAT) organised a three-day Mineral Development Awareness and Quiz Programme (MDAQP) here to update students pursuing PG course in Geoscience and Degree courses in mining, metallurgical, mineral and environment engineering about the latest developments in the respective areas.
During the programme, students visited mines, saw loading and unloading systems and were trained about environment protection measures and water harvesting structure. They were also learnt about identification of specimen of rocks, ores, minerals and metallurgical products and interpretation of satellite imageries. An oral quiz was also held.
Institutions like the India School of Mines, Dhanbad, IITs, Kharagpur and Bhubaneswar, IIEST, Shibapur, NITs of Rourkela, Jamshedpur and Raipur, Government College of Engineering, Keonjhargarh, Jadavpur, Calcutta, Utkal, Sambalpur and Ravenshaw Universities and DD Auto College, Keonjhar participated.
About 44 participants from 22 institutions visited the Tata and Jindal plants. The Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar emerged as the overall winner of MDAQP 2016 and its participants Shoham Das and Priyanshu Pal were awarded with the best prize.
