Asia’s first of its kind Photography Art Centre would be set up in Haryana to promote photography in a big way, Haryana Art and Cultural Affairs Minister, Kavita Jain said on Saturday.
She said Chief Minister, Manohar lal, has approved the construction of the centre at a cost of `4.50 crore at Chakkarpur in Gurugram.This centre would be established during the Swarna Jayanti Year of the State from November 1, 2016 to October 31, 2017 ,she added.
Jain said that the centre, which would comprise a museum, library, gallery, workshop area and other facilities, would serve as a one-stop source of all information related to the world of photography.
A museum would be established at its ground floor, where the history of photography since 1840 would be chronicled. The development of cameras and related paraphernalia would be depicted through displays of different camera models since 1870. These would also include rare cameras, she added.
The Minister said that a gallery would also be set up where the Freedom Struggle of the country would be chronicled from 1930 onwards through photographs. Besides, books, magazines and other publications related to the art and techniques of photography would be made available in the library. Workshop area would be provided for exhibition of the exemplary works of expert photographers.
Talks by experts would also be organised from time to time in a specially-designated lecture hall, she added.
