Constantly in a denial mode on the issue of sexual assaults during Jat reservation stir, Haryana Government faced another embarrassment on Monday, when the Amicus Curie Anupam Gupta, told the court that there was another witness who had deposed before the Parkash Singh panel that he had seen a “rush of young and older women” wearing torn clothes.
The startling revelation before the Division Bench of Justice SS Saron and Justice Gurmit Ram came as another blow to the claims of the Government of not getting any evidence. State Director-General of Police KP Singh and Additional Chief Secretary Vijay Vardhan were present when the assertion by Amrik Singh were made.
Picking up the assertions made before the court, Amicus Curie Gupta said, “Amrik Singh interacted with three committee members and told them that rapes had taken place in Murthal… Parkash Singh, KP Singh and Vijay Vardhan should be asked to file affidavits whether they had any interaction with Amrik Singh”
Gupta added Amrik Singh openly said before Parkash Singh, KP Singh and Vardhan that rapes had taken place. Everyone was asked to leave before he told the panel that they gave shawls and blankets to the women as their clothes were in shreds. The dhaba owner also told the committee that the women were literally spirited away by the district SP and DC, who magically appeared 35 minutes after the women showed up.
The revelations before the court attain significance as the state has maintained that Amrik Singh had not said anything on rape of women. In her affidavit, the SIT chief Mamta Singh had said that Murthal-based Sukhdev Dhaba owner Amrik Singh had said nothing.
Referring to a news-report based on interview with Parkash Singh, Gupta added that the former Director-General of Police had asserted that “something very dishonourable happened there. And the local police definitely did try to bury it” in reference to the gangrapes in Murthal village.
Counsel for the state lokesh Singhal in an attempt to defy the allegations said that the probe was on right track. The court adjourned the matter for Wednesday after long arguments between the Amicus Curie and the state counsel.
